CREATING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Sustainable Futures commitment to a sustainable and resilient UK agricultural sector has led to the creation of the SF CarbonBank. By offering an incentive for UK farmers to become net emission sinks, SF CarbonBank promotes environmental regeneration and biodiversity through and the pragmatic use of regenerative agriculture principles allowing farmers to do the right practices, at the right times for the environment, and their crops and profitability.
THE BENEFITS OF CARBON FARMING
HELP THE UK FOOD & DRINK INDUSTRY ACHIEVE NET-ZERO CARBON
IMPROVE THE BIODIVERSITY OF YOUR FARMLAND
SECURE A NEW REVENUE INCOME
POSITIVELY INFLUENCE THE PERCEPTION OF UK FARMING
HOW FARMS CAN SEQUESTER CARBON
Carbon dioxide is sequestered into the soil via plants through the process of photosynthesis. The soil stores the sequestered carbon dioxide as soil organic carbon (SOC). Sustainable Futures Carbon Bank work with farms to implement new or additional nature-based farming solutions which can increase the amount of carbon dioxide that is sequestered into the farmland soil. Solutions include growing cover crops or catch crops as part of the rotation plan, minimising tillage techniques, and growing companion crops and grass leys in the system.
